Safety and Training
We take our responsibility as protectors of children in our care very seriously.
Each PHBC volunteer who works with minors in any way must meet eligibility requirements spelled out in our Child Abuse Prevention policy, fill out a detailed application, submit to a background check and complete Child Abuse Prevention Training. Currently, we use the MinistrySafe program to administer our background checks and training.
We have children’s classes during the worship service. Below is a quick outline of how we work to show the love of Christ and teach the deep truths of God to each age:
Ages 0-3: These children are directed either to our “bed babies” or “toddlers” rooms where trained volunteers care for them. In the toddlers room, a general schedule is in place that allows opportunities for unstructured play time and times of instruction where children practice sitting and listening. Childcare for these ages is provided for the entirety of the worship service.
Ages 4 -Third Grade: These children join the church body in the worship center to experience the first part of the service with their families. After being dismissed to Children’s Worship, the kids have fellowship, prayer, singing and a lesson from the New City Catechism curriculum.
Fourth Grade and up: These childre join the church body in the worship center for the entire service. Fourth- and fifth-grade students have the opportunity to serve as junior helpers once a month in Children’s Worship.
PHBC Awana clubs meet on Wednesday evenings 6:30-7:30 p.m. during the school year. Our program serves ages Preschool-5th grade, and 7th-12th grade students have opportunities to join a class and be encouraged by older men & women (Titus 2) or to serve as Junior Helpers (after training) with our Awana Team!
Awana is a world-wide nonprofit ministry focused on providing Bible-based evangelism and discipleship solutions for ages 2-18. As the global leader in child and youth discipleship, AWANA gives children the opportunity to know, love and serve Jesus, no matter their background.
Registration for the 2021-2022 Awana year will open soon!
